Noise Tide

A Sound interactive Installation Design

PROJECT INSIGHT

The centerpiece of my project is the interactive installation "Noise Tide," which uses real-time noise feedback to visually represent the impact of sound pollution. Drawing inspiration from my coastal hometown and traditional Chinese "fish lantern" techniques, I designed this installation to highlight the harm noise causes to both human health and marine life. Suspended sculptures made from paper and wire react to noise levels in Auckland CBD, offering a tangible, immersive experience that encourages audiences to reflect on the unseen yet pervasive issue of noise pollution. By translating abstract data into visual art, the installation connects viewers to the environmental problem in a personal and engaging way.

Complementing the interactive installation are three promotional posters and an educational website designed to raise awareness of noise pollution. The posters, strategically placed around Auckland, aim to capture attention and provoke curiosity about noise levels in the city. Their striking visuals invite viewers to explore the impact of everyday noise on their well-being and that of the environment. Meanwhile, the website extends the conversation by offering in-depth information on noise pollution’s effects and actionable steps people can take to reduce it. Featuring interactive maps, comparisons to global noise standards, and details about the "Noise Tide" installation, the website helps foster a broader understanding of the significance of noise control, linking art, education, and environmental advocacy.
